IGCSE stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Education. It is an external program offered by the University of Cambridge to students all over the globe. The ages of the students attempting the examination is generally between 14 to 16 years old.
As this examination is offered from many countries, there is a wide range of subjects students can select from. As this is an external program students can take exams in their own countries, in the approved examination centers operating under the British Council.
Most of the students normally attempt 6 to 7 IGCSE examinations and then they enter the next program offered by the University of Cambridge. The next program is called A-level which is an abbreviation of Advanced level.
The grades are given in the form of A, B, C, D, E and U. Most of the people are attempting to get an A or B grade. A stands for 90% and above, B stands for 80% and above, C stands for 70% and above, D stands for 60% and above, E stands for 50% and above and U stands for Ungraded. Upon completion of the course the student gets a certificate stating his/her grades with a stamp of University of Cambridge.
This form of education is recognized all around the world and students take this certificate to get admission to colleges and universities in the world. This program is getting global recognition and more and more students are taking this education. IGCSE is most popular in England, India, Singapore and other Middle Eastern countries.
